WHO SHOULD USE SIRADTM

SIRAD can be used by anyone who can potentially be exposed to a high dose (1-1,000 rads) of ionizing radiations. These include:

  • First responders, such as police, firefighters, medical personnel, etc. who would be the first to arrive on the scene
  • Medical personnel who work with radioactive materials or radiation sources such as X-ray units
  • Defense personnel, such as the Army, Navy, Air Force, National Guard, etc.
  • Coast Guard, Customs Officers, and others who patrol our borders
  • Workers who administer radiation therapy
  • Workers at nuclear power plants
  • People working at radiation processing plants, such as radiation sterilization plants

People living and working around nuclear power plant and radioactive materials and those come in contact with a large number people such as bus/train drivers and airport workers may consider using SIRAD just to feel comfortable that they have not been exposed to a high dose.

A high dose of radiation exposure can occur from large dirty bombs, unshielded radiography sources, unshielded radiotherapy sources, unshielded radiothermal generators, nuclear detonations and nuclear reactor accidents.

In the event of a detonation of a dirty bomb, it is imperative that people affected by the bomb and first responders (police, firefighters, medical personnel, etc.) quickly assess the radiation exposure. If people affected by a dirty bomb promptly learn their radiation exposure, panic and concern can be minimized. If they have not been exposed to radiation or received a very low dose, they are out of immediate danger and do not immediately need to rush to a hospital. However, those who have received a high dose can be sent to hospitals where SIRAD can help physicians determine who should be treated first. The first responders will know their exposure and will leave the area before they get over exposed to high energy radiation.

INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS: SIRAD is designed as a high dose dosimeter for a personal use. However, it can also be used to monitor radiation in other industrial applications. We have developed SIRAD with different dose ranges up to a few megarads. To use SIRAD for other industrial applications, such as radiation crosslinking of polymers, sterilization of medical supplies and perishables, and other applications, please contact JP Labs
